OpenSIGLE– System for Information on Grey Literature in Europe: Grey literature is the term used to describe unpublished materials such as conference papers, technical reports, etc. OPEN SIGLE provides a searchable database of over 800,000 of these hard to find documents. Each record provides bibliographic details and links to sources which might supply a copy of the document.

The SIGLE database is multidisciplinary database, covering fundamental and applied sciences, technologies, humanities and social sciences.  OpenSIGLE is available at: http://opensigle.inist.fr/

SCIE (Social Care Institute for Excellence) have produced a new website for nurses and others working with people with dementia – SCIE Dementia Gateway. Given recent reports about the number of patients in hospitals who suffer from dementia, this is a timely and very useful resource. The contents cover five main themes: getting to know the person with dementia, eating well, difficult situations, keeping occupied and the environment. Each theme includes practical tips, a learning activity and a additional resources. Resources include links to videos on dementia and an e-learning programme.

BELIT is a free online database to help you find citations for ethical topics in healthcare. It is a joint effort between databases held in German, France and the United States. The database lists citations to articles, newspapers, books, legal documents and grey literature. It will not lead you to the full-text, however it will give you full citations to search in Voyager.

You will see a new version of CINAHL when you come back for this academic year.  We now have CINAHL with Full-Text!  You will search CINAHL exactly the same, however you may now see PDF or HTML links to the full-text of journal articles which are available through the database.  This gives many of the same titles we already have, but with some additional journals which are of high value (ie British Journal of Midwifery).  If there isn’t an icon for full-text, we still may get the journal electronically or in print.  If there isn’t an icon, it just means that we cannot get the article through the publishers dealing with Ebsco – SO, make sure you click on the Locate It at Swansea button to see if we have the article that you need.
